Northern Lights

OBSERVATION:

The first image that is titled sky2.jpg was actually taken back in September of this year during one of my public observing sessions at the Tupper Lake industrial park. The photo is looking into the heart of the Milky Way (our galaxy) into what is known as the constellation Sagittarius

There are many objects in this region that can be viewed with even a small telescope. Some of them can be seen in the photo if you look carefully. Camera is a Ricoh 35mm SLR, Rikenon 50mm lens, Cable release on a tripod, FUJI 800 film and 35 seconds exposure.

The rest of the photos were of course the Northern Lights event that occurred on October 30 2003. This was a direct result of the X17.2 Solar flare that erupted from the sun on October 28th. 2003. All the Aurora shots were taken on Dugal Rd here in Tupper Lake with the same camera and roll of film as mentioned and none of the exposures were over 45 seconds.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!
